Stock Market Today: Top 10 Insights for the Day Ahead

  • Sen­sex, Nifty 50 Today: The bench­mark Sen­sex and Nifty indices are expect­ed to open slight­ly high­er, with the GIFT Nifty indi­cat­ing a pos­i­tive start with a gain of 15 points.
  • BSE Sen­sex and Nifty50: On Novem­ber 3, fol­low­ing the pre­vi­ous day gains, the BSE Sen­sex surged by 283 points to reach 64,364, and the Nifty50 saw a gain of 97 points, clos­ing at 19,231. This result­ed in the for­ma­tion of a spin­ning top can­dle pat­tern with inde­ci­sive­ness among both buy­ers and sell­ers.
  • FIIs and DIIs: For­eign insti­tu­tion­al investors offloaded shares worth Rs 12.43 crore, while domes­tic insti­tu­tion­al investors bought Rs 402.69 crore worth of stocks on Novem­ber 1, accord­ing to pro­vi­sion­al data from the Nation­al Stock Exchange.

Commodity Prices

Oil Prices:

  1. Oil prices dropped over 2% on Fri­day.
  2. The decline was due to reduced sup­ply con­cerns relat­ed to Mid­dle East ten­sions.
  3. Brent crude futures fell $1.92 to $84.89 a bar­rel, a 2.3% decrease.
  4. US West Texas Inter­me­di­ate crude futures dropped $1.95 to $80.51 a bar­rel, a 2.4% decrease.
  5. Both bench­marks record­ed week­ly declines of more than 6%.

Gold Prices:

  • Gold prices rose on Fri­day.
  • The increase was due to a weak­en­ing U.S. dol­lar and Trea­sury yields.
  • Spot gold gained 0.4% to reach $1,994.28 per ounce.
  • US gold futures set­tled 0.3% high­er at $1,999.2.
  • The weak U.S. jobs data rein­forced expec­ta­tions that the Fed­er­al Reserve would not raise inter­est rates fur­ther.

Dol­lar Index: The Dol­lar index dipped slight­ly by 0.06 per­cent in futures, while the exchange rate for one dol­lar remained close to Rs 83.16.

Global Markets

U.S. Mar­kets:

  • US equi­ty futures were flat on Sun­day evening after a strong week.
  • Dow Jones Indus­tri­al Aver­age futures rose 0.04 per­cent.
  • S&P 500 futures gained 0.03 per­cent, and Nas­daq 100 futures were near­ly flat at 0.01 per­cent.
  • Major aver­ages had their best week of the year, with the Dow up 5.07 per­cent, the S&P 500 up 5.85 per­cent, and the Nas­daq Com­pos­ite up 6.61 per­cent.
  • Fac­tors con­tribut­ing to the mar­ket’s pos­i­tive per­for­mance includ­ed over­sold con­di­tions, strong earn­ings, opti­mism about the Fed­er­al Reserve’s rate pol­i­cy, and a notable decline in inter­est rates.

Euro­pean Mar­kets:

  • Euro­pean mar­kets wrapped up the week on an uncer­tain note, tack­ing on mod­est gains.
  • The Stoxx 600 index saw a 0.2 per­cent uptick, and the stand­out per­form­ers were the retail stocks, which soared by 1.7 per­cent.
  • In con­trast, the oil and gas sec­tor took a dip, down 2.2 per­cent.
  • Maer­sk, a ship­ping giant, sent shock­waves by plum­met­ing 17 per­cent, cit­ing low­er-than-expect­ed prof­its and announc­ing 10,000 job cuts.
  • Siemens Ener­gy, on the oth­er hand, caught atten­tion by surg­ing over 9 per­cent. The buzz is that it might shed its stake in Indi­a’s Siemens Ltd to for­ti­fy its finan­cial stand­ing.

Asian Mar­kets:

  1. Asian mar­kets kicked off the week with gus­to, fueled by a twist in the US job mar­ket sto­ry.
  2. The US non­farm pay­rolls report for Octo­ber fell short of expec­ta­tions, post­ing 150,000 new jobs, below the antic­i­pat­ed 170,000.
  3. Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged by 2%, while the Top­ix hit a one-month high, gain­ing 1.45%.
  4. South Kore­a’s Kospi joined the par­ty with an impres­sive 2.14% leap, and the tech-focused Kos­daq rock­et­ed up by 3.39%.
  5. Over in Hong Kong, Hang Seng index futures indi­cat­ed an opti­mistic start, and Aus­trali­a’s S&P/ASX 200 added 0.40%, paint­ing a bright pic­ture for the day ahead.
